Hundreds rallied while carrying photos of three children who lost their lives in a house fire started by a candle. Gaza’s main power plant has been unable to fully provide the enclave’s electricity requirements since 2014 after Israel bombed it during its 50-day war on the impoverished terriroty. Power cuts currently leave Gaza residents without electricity for up to 18 hours a day. The demonstrators blame the nine-year old blockade for the power crisis as well as the recent tragic accident. They also criticized the Palestinian Authority for imposing tax on industrial fuel imported into Gaza. Israel imposed a land, sea, and air blockade on the Gaza Strip in June 2007.
