Israel Approves Over 200 New Settler Units in West Bank. Israel’s Settlement Construction War Crime: Palestinian Official

  A top Palestinian official says Israel’s new settlement construction plan is tantamount to war crime. The Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization Saeb Erekat says Tel Aviv’s settlement activities on Palestinian territories continue to entrench Israel’s colonial occupation. He called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for the action. The reaction comes after Israel approved the construction of more than two-hundred settler units in the occupied West Bank. An Israeli activist group says Tel Aviv’s planned settlement projects in the West Bank have more than tripled in the first quarter of 2016. Palestinians say Israel is in fact seeking to ethnically cleanse them and totally Judaize the West Bank by its ongoing settlement activities.

  Israel has approved the construction of more than 200 settler units in the occupied West Bank. The construction was approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Minister of Military Affairs Moshe Ya’alon. A report published last week shows that special funding for Israeli settlements soared last year. According to the report, constructions and investment have been higher in the West Bank compared to other areas. The report also indicates that over the past 17 years, construction in settlements increased 105 percent, from 4.85 million square meters in 1998 to nearly 10 million square meters in 2015. Under international law, all Israeli settlements are illegal.
