The US secretary of state has warned Beijing that Washington will not tolerate any restrictions on sea and air routes in the South China Sea. Kerry made the remarks at a regional security meeting that was held on the sidelines of the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Malaysia. The top American diplomat complained that China has not lived up to its commitments to ease tensions in the South China Sea. The territorial dispute between Beijing on one side and Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Taiwan on the other side once again came to surface at the ASEAN meeting this week. The US and its Southeast Asian allies have called on China to halt constructions on reefs. Beijing has rejected outside interference in the regional dispute.
