NATO member Poland is warning that Europe’s decades of peace after the Cold War era are now over amid an increasing number of crises including the war in Ukraine. Poland’s defense minister Tomasz Siemoniak says Europe must do more to defend itself. He made the remarks while observing the first full exercise of NATO’s new rapid reaction force along with NATO head Jens Stoltenberg in western Poland. The Polish defense minister also said the rise of ISIL terrorist group and crises in North Africa are other major challenges facing Europe. Soldiers from several NATO countries have been taking part in the exercise since last week amid unprecedented tensions with Russia. Thousands of additional forces have also moved from Sweden to Poland for the drills. Russia and the West are competing for regional influence. The two sides have been increasingly flexing their military muscles.
