Russia is to take part in naval exercises in South China Sea together with its partners in the Asia Pacific Region in 2016. Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov announced the plan at a summit in Singapore. Antonov said Moscow will have its first-ever drills with Brunei. The Russian official added that Moscow is increasingly concerned for its security, citing US deployment of missile systems in the region. He said US policies are aimed at containing Russia and China and pose a threat to stability in the region. Moscow’s decision comes as tensions between the United States and China are growing on Beijing’s building of artificial islands in South China Sea. Washington says the constructions are aimed at land reclamation. Beijing denies the allegation.
