Iran says its naval vessels have not departed from the Gulf of Aden and will continue their mission there. Navy commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari says Iran’s thirty fourth naval vessels group is currently patrolling the Gulf of Aden. The Iranian ships are tasked with securing Iranian shipping lines, combating marine terrorism and providing security for the region. The Iranian commander says Iran will not allow any country to inspect its vessels or threaten them to leave an area. The Iranian naval vessels, including Bushehr logistical ship and Alborz destroyer sailed to the Gulf of Aden in early April. A Pentagon spokesman had said Iranian vessels turned around from the Gulf of Aden and are heading back home.
