i pray the Lord comes for Christians prior to the collapse of America. I’m so afraid of what will happen to people like me who are disabled, housebound and bed bound and must rely on access to medical care. Im a 62 year old a polio survivor ( I now suffer with debilitating post polio syndrome which affects my muscle strength, mobility and even my lungs which are of course regulated by the diaphragm, a large muscle), and also have a degenerative neurological disease in my spine which is collapsing that results in excruciating non stop pain everywhere from the neck down. It is in my bones, muscles and skin. My muscles feel like they are twisting, tearing, burning up. My bones have deep seated,, in the narrow pain that hurts so bad it seems to radiate outside my body. My skin can’t even have the weight of my clothes on them when it is very bad, which it is multiple times each week. It burns , causes peripheral neuropathy and even paralyzation in my left foot. I get frequent full body muscle spasms that I cannot control and leave me twisted and contorted from head to toes. This pain worsens as the disease progresses. It is not a common experience in the world of medicine and has no cure. I’ve endured many injections directly into my spinal column with steroids in an effort to curb the pain as well as radio frequency nerve ablation which sends a frequency through special needles inserted into my spine to burn certain nerves until they die. None of these helped.
Medicaid currently won’t pay for an implant, which probably wouldn’t work anyhow since the pain is so widely dispersed, even in the trunk of my body. This is named unofficially as the “worst pain in the world”. I’m on 2 very strong opiate narcotics and have been for eight years. I don’t like that routine, but have no choice. If I was not on them the pain would, after some time, kill me through heart attack or stroke. It’s worse than cancer pain and affects the adrenal and thyroid glands due to bodily stress, which in turn affects heart rate, blood pressure and metabolism. So my fears are great that after the collapse of this once wonderful country,, once a source of pride and respect and now of evil and a sense of foreboding and oppression, will make it impossible for me to maintain my treatment. I live on 1100.00 a month social security and have Medicare and the ” Extra Help” program through Medicaid. This pays for most of my medical care and medications, which include prescriptions for my heart, depression, peripheral neuropathy, anxiety, muscle spasms, migraines and of course, narcotic pain medications. When. all this happens and it will, what will happen to my social security and my medical care? I just cannot imagine not being able to access my doctors and my medicines! Not even for one day! I have terrible pain even on my medication that keeps me bed bound most of the time! I can barely walk due to the weakness in my legs and spinal degeneration due to post polio and the ongoing destruction of nerve cells that are supposed to make my muscles work. To have to endure the full brunt of my pain is more than my body will be able to bear. The suffering would be immense: off the scale!! This is what I fear so much. As well I would have to endure the long, insufferable and anxiety ridden throes of narcotic withdrawal which, in my case, is worse than a long and painful death. I know because one time someone broke into my parents home, where I’ve been living since my husband left me for someone else five years ago ( he promised to take care of me!) and stole my medications. I couldn’t see my doctor for five days as he was out of town. I had to file with the police and get the report and bring it to my doctor so I could get replacement medication. There are rules when you are a pain patient. I went into withdrawal and it was awful. Anxiety is through the roof and I could feel it in my gut. I had diarrhea and nausea and the full brunt of my pain. My son took me to the clinic curled up in a ball in my wheelchair. I wanted to die. I understand now the urgency of being an addict, which of course, I am as I have been on opiates for eight years now at very high dosages. I am so frightened as to what the “changeover” to this so called new world order will cause me to suffer. I’m not afraid of dying, I would welcome it as a release from my suffering. There are no tears in Heaven. I’m afraid of living without means to access medical care . I know I can’t be alone on these thoughts.
