Israeli troops have detained 1,300 Palestinians in Jerusalem al-Quds since June. The Palestinian Prisoner’s Club says over 40 percent of the detainees are minors under the age of 18. Those arrested were in most cases charged with throwing stones, firecrackers or Molotov cocktails at Israeli targets. Israeli authorities ordered some of the detainees to pay fines while others were given deportation orders or had to serve a house arrest. The Palestinian Prisoner’s Club says not only the number of arrests has increased, but the sentences against the Palestinians have become harsher. The Israeli cabinet has recently approved a new bill stipulating harsher sentences against Palestinian protesters.
